Top 5 Things I Wish That I Would’ve Known at 22

  1. You have to be working hard… Before opportunity will knock!

Many have said that “Opportunities are sometimes missed because it comes dressed as hard work”. There’s a lot of truth that, but, if you’re working hard, opportunity will find you!

  1. You’re NOT entitled to anything… You have to EARN it!

Buck the norm… Work as though every opportunity may be your last… Even better, an audition for your next. This will ensure that you’re always focused. Make sure that you write down ALL of your goals… Ensure that they’re all time-bound & measurable. That’s the only way that you can truly say that you’ve met YOUR expectations!

  1. Build your network… It’ll be you most power incoming making tool!

“Your net worth is determined by your network”! Hard work & talent isn’t enough… You need to connect & work diligently to stay connected throughout the lifecycle of your career. Reach out to “stay connected” NOT just to “get connected”. Integrity is not only appreciated but rewarded handsomely!

  1. Learn the difference between a Mentor & a Sponsor!

A Mentor speaks about you… They can provide guidance, get your resume to the top of the pile, introduce you to the right contacts, etc.  A Sponsor speaks for you… They are willing to put their reputation on the line to have you “placed” in a position that you may not even be prepared for. They are willing to groom you to ensure YOUR success!

  1. #HopeIsNotAStrategy

“Failing to planning, is planning to fail”. You need a “roadmap to success” with written milestones & deliverables that will force you to be accountable to YOUR plan! Don’t let anyone else drive your career… No one has the vested interest in it that you do!

Thanks for sharing your time & looking forward to your feedback!
